EARL NewsTwo more EARL objections withdrawn
The British Transport Police Authority and BRB (Residuary) Limited have both removed their objections to the Edinburgh Airport Rail Link (EARL) Bill. This brings the total of objection withdrawals to date to 17. Negotiations with the British Transport Police Authority centred around the provision of secure radio communications everywhere on the new infrastructure. EARL has also agreed to work with them on aspects of security and crime prevention in the airport environment. Part of this will include the provision of a police facility for on-duty officers. The discussions with BRB (Residuary) Limited aimed to resolve the issue of future potential liability in relation to affected land. This will be addressed through an amendment to the Bill. Barry Cross, EARL Projector Director, said: "The objection management team has been working hard to reach satisfactory agreements with both organisations from the outset. Neither organisation objected to the bill in principle. I am delighted that through open discussions, we have managed to negotiate the withdrawal of their objections." EARL will transform rail travel in Scotland, and create a world class transport hub at Edinburgh Airport. The scheme has the support of 83% of Scotland's population.
