tie welcomes EARL Committee Approval
15th of September, 2006

tie Limited, the promoter of the Edinburgh Airport Rail Link (EARL) Bill, welcomes the EARL Bill Committee’s recommendation that the EARL Bill should proceed as a Private Bill.

The scheme, which will construct a new railway station at Edinburgh Airport, will enable airport users direct rail access to 62 stations across Scotland, placing Edinburgh Airport at the centre of the national rail network.

Barry Cross, Project Director, EARL, said:  “We welcome the Committee’s decision to agree to the general principles of the Bill and that it should proceed as a Private Bill.

tie acknowledges the Committee’s request for further information on certain issues and will be working with Transport Scotland, Edinburgh Airport Limited and Network Rail to ensure that the benefits are realised and the Committee’s questions are answered.

“The Committee’s views are a further recognition of the importance of the EARL scheme to Scotland’s rail network and the complexities of its interaction with rail services nationally.

“We are pleased that the Committee recognises the benefits EARL brings to Scotland and the positive benefit to cost ratio along with the role EARL will play in getting drivers out of their cars and on to public transport.”
