EARL NewsEARL appoints ground investigation contractor tie limited has appointed Fugro as Ground Investigation Contractor to the Edinburgh Airport Rail Link (EARL). Fugro was appointed following an intensive tendering process which invited companies to bid for this crucial piece of work. Susan Clark, Project Director of EARL, said: “Now that the EARL Bill is about to enter the Scottish Parliament, we are moving on to a new stage of the process. The geotechnical challenges of EARL cannot be underestimated, and Fugro will play a key role in developing our understanding.” “The Fugro team impressed us greatly, and I’m looking forward to working with them.” Christian Grundy of Fugro stated: “EARL is an exciting project in which the geotechnical investigation plays a vital part. We’re delighted that tie limited has appointed Fugro and we know we can meet the tasks that they have set us.” EARL involves the construction of an underground station and 1.5 miles of tunnel underneath Edinburgh Airport and is the largest infrastructure project to be undertaken in Scotland since the Forth Rail Bridge. A Private Bill for the project is expected to be introduced into the Scottish Parliament imminently and construction is scheduled to begin in 2007.
